KARACHI: Senior leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party and former Petroleum Minister, Dr Asim Hussain has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Bilquis Bano Edhi, wife of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi who passed away at age of 74 after a brief illness.
Dr Asim while praising her services for humanity and particularly for poor masses in his message said that country has lost a woman known as mother of poor and ailing humanity.
PPP leader also said that her services towards ailing people would ever remembered. As a Pakistan’s towering philanthropist and humanitarian late Bilquis Edhi served humanity with zeal and without prejudice.
He said that for her services she was declared ‘Person of Decade”, along with human rights rapporteur of United Nation Prof Yanghee Lee and US ethicist Stephen Soldz.
Dr Asim also wrote on his Twitter handle “Heartbroken to hear about the death of the great philanthropist Bilquis Edhi. She dedicated her entire life to serve humanity alongside her late husband. Selfless people like her are hard to come by. Her social work will always be remembered. May Allah bless the departed soul.”
