Business Recorder – Is this justice?

I am shocked to hear that so far no judge in the Sindh High Court is willing to hear the bail pleas filed by Dr. Asim Hussain, the former petroleum and natural resources minister. This is very astonishing and raises many questions about the sufferings of the accused in various cases. Already the legal procedure in our country is too long and in many cases the accused had to wait for years for judgment. Dr Asim is facing three trials one in anti-terrorism court and the other two in national accountability court. The question arises what is the hindrance in listening the bail pleas of Dr Asim, at least the honorable court should hear and give whatever verdict about the applications. He has been in jail custody for more than one year and during this period his health is deteriorating, as per the medical reports. Though I am not a lawyer and neither know the legal complications but failed to understand in simple words the reasons behind this behavior of our honorable courts that they are even not ready to hear his bail pleas. Anyhow, this is unfair on the part of a citizen as it is always said that he is innocent until proved guilty. – Muhammad Usman, Karachi
