BILAWAL CALLS ON PPP KARACHI PRESIDENT, DISCUSSES METROPOLIS ISSUES

By Nasir Mahmood

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called on Dr Asim Hussain yesterday at the Jinnah Hospital where he is undergoing medical treatment under the custody of law enforcement agencies. Dr Asim has been under custody for over a year. The PPP views that former petroleum minister Dr Asim is being politically victimised and the federal government wants him to become an approver in a number of corruption cases against other PPP leaders. On the other hand, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has summoned a session of the upper house of parliament on Dec 15 which is requisitioned by the opposition to take up several crucial issues, including a bill about the continued detention of PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain. Instead of mentioning in the agenda the name of Dr Asim the opposition has sought a debate on the issue of “political prisoners”, the sources said. Talking to media, PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar admitted that by including in the agenda the issue of “political prisoners in the country”, the party wanted to highlight the prolonged detention of Dr Hussain. He said that by requisitioning the Senate session, the opposition had proved that it wanted to see the resolution of all the issues through Parliament.
