INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS SPEAK ON SECOND DAY OF ZIAUDDIN UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE

KARACHI: “The hosting of the 3rd international Conference is a significant event for our University. The Ziauddin University (ZU) holds a unique position in Pakistan in terms of the choice of the fields it offers. With the total staff of 700 including world class professors and clinicians, ZU covers all areas of medical, biomedical and allied health sciences.” Dr Asim Hussain, Chancellor, Ziauddin University said this in his message for the participants of the 3-day international conference on “Bridging the gap in primary healthcare innovations, translations beyond”. He further said the objective of this conference and workshop is to provide a nationally-drawn, broad-based audience, the opportunity to listen to and interact with national and international experts as well as organize a forum to share experiences and recommend ways to improve standards of primary healthcare in the country. The Plenary Session of the second day of the Ziauddin University Conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Zahida Memon, Dr. Shahla Naseem, Prof. Dr. Ali Akbar Sial and Prof. Dr. Serajuddullah Syed. Prof. S N Bazmi Inam addressed the audience on “Primary Healthcare Systems for Developing Countries”. He belongs to the Community Health Sciences Qassim University by Buraidah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Gul-e- Zehra Representative for Tallories Network, TUFTS, United States of America, highlighted the “Academia- Civic Responsibility-Role of University and Students.” Third speaker was Prof. Dr Mervyn Hosein Principal, Ziauddin College of Dentistry, she addressed the “Health through Oral Health: Preventive Strategies for Pakistan.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saima Iqbal, Chairperson, Family Medicine Shifa University, Islamabad spoke about “Public Health Ethics”. The second Plenary Session was chaired by Prof Dr. Rubina Hussain, Dr. Maud Nauta, Prof. Waris Qidwai and Dr. Riaz Ali. Prof. Dr. Jawaid Usman Chairman, Family Medicine, Ziauddin University & Hospital discussed “Addressing Civic engagement through University students- Ziauddin University experience”. Prof. Dr. Zaigham Abbas Chairman Gastroenterology, Ziauddin University & Hospital highlighted “Advanced in treatment of Chronic Hepatitis”. Dr. Hiba Ashraf Chairperson, Family Medicine, The Indus Hospital, Karachi informed about “Innovations in Family Medicine Training in Pakistan”. There were three Parallel Sessions of Satellite symposium. Out of it the first was on the subject of Internal Medicine, held at Abul Hasan Jafarey Auditorium and chaired by Chief Facilitator, Prof. Dr. Ejaz Vohra. “Thyroid Disorders” were discussed by Prof. Dr. Zaman Shaikh. “GLP 1 analogies and DPP4 Inhibitors” addressed by Dr. Imtiaz Khalid. “Newer Insulins” discussed by Prof. Najm-ul-Islam while Dr. Ali Raza spoke on “Emergency Medicine: An emerging specialty in Pakistan”. Prof. Dr. MZ Jillani, Prof. Dr. Abdul Basit, Prof. Khalid Mehmood and Prof. Saeed A Mahar chaired the session. Free Papers (Oral Presentations) were chaired by Prof. Dr. Imran Shaikh and Prof. Dr. Tausif. The second Satellite symposium on Dermatology was held at Lecture Hall A. Its Chief Facilitator was Prof. Dr. Ijaz Ahmed. Dr. Humaira Marium addressed on “Eczema—Confronting a Family physician”. “Common Skin Infection in Family practice” was the topic of Dr. Furqana Niaz. “Hairfall — Cicatricial and Non-cicatricial Alopecia” was addressed by Dr. Sadaf Ahmed Asim. Mirza Tasawer Baig addressed on “Antibiotic Resistance of Acne Vulgaris infections with commonly prescribed drugs”. Prof. Dr. Zarnaz Wahid and Dr. Faisal Ahmed chaired the session. While Free Papers (Oral Presentations) was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nuzhat Hassan and Dr. Hasan Danish. The third Satellite symposium on Pediatrics was held in Lecture Hall B. Its Chief Facilitator was Dr. Farhana Zafar. In this session Prof. Dr. Farah Agha and Dr. Shabbir Mallick addressed on “Neonatal Sepsis”. Dr. Iqbal addressed on “Pneumonia (Recurrent Chest Infection)”. “Recent Challenges in TB Management” was the topic by Dr. Farah Qamar. And Prof. Dr. Saeeda Baig addressed on “Frequency of Human Papillomavirus in oral cavity of children of Karachi”. Prof. Dr. Ghaffar Billo, Prof. Dr. AbduL Malik and Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Lakhani chaired the session. Dr. Zain Aly and Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad chaired the Free Papers (Oral Presentations).
