HEARING IN PETITION AGAINST ILLEGAL VIDEO PUT-OFF

KARACHI: Sindh High Court yesterday adjourned till July 26, hearing of a petition filed by Dr Aijaz Fatima, mother of Dr Asim Hussain against the airing of illegal video clips on electronic media. Rangers had recorded his statement while in detention under the influence of drugs, maintains the petitioner praying to the court to refrain the agencies from releasing such video clips and statements by interfering in this case while the matter was sub-judice. The court was also requested for protection to the family members of Dr Asim Hussain. It may be mentioned here that a day after the video clips were aired on electronic media, Dr Asim Hussain’s lawyer alleged that his client was either forced or drugged to make the claims. “Dr Asim does not recall anything about his confession,” former federal minister’s counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan said while addressing the media on June 16. He could have been drugged or forced to give the statements,” he added. Dr Asim’s lawyer also apprehended withdrawal of facility of medical treatment and medicines to his client suffering from life threatening diseases. Further, Khan said the video appears to have been recorded when Dr Asim was under Rangers custody. The court was also requested for protection to the family members of Dr Asim Hussain. Today when the petition was taken up by the court, counsel for Federal government, the defendant in the case requested the court to grant some time for filing written reply this regard. The bench allowing the request adjourned further proceedings till July 26.
