PEMRA recommends Rs. 500,000 fine on Channel-92

KARACHI: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has recommended imposing fine of Rs. 500,000/- on M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. (Channel-92) for irresponsible and unverified reporting.

The press release said the authority’s Council of Complaints in its meeting presided by Prof. Inam Bari recommended imposing fine of Rs. 500,000/- on M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. (Channel-92) for irresponsible and unverified reporting on the complaint of Dr Asim Hussain filed through his legal counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan, the senior advocate of the Supreme Court.

The Council has also recommended revocation of Cable TV Licences of M/s Barlas Cable TV Network and M/s N.N Cable TV Network, Karachi for being non-operational and not revalidating their licenses after expiry.

Hearing a complaint against DAWN News programme ‘News Eye,’ hosted by Mehar Bukhari dated 16th March, 2016, the Council recommended issuing advice to M/s Aurora Broadcasting (Pvt.) Ltd. (Dawn News) for violating Code of Conduct and failing to install effective time delay mechanism in its live programs.
